  27. I see a problem coming here: how does an unreplicated document (say my
  28. own home page) mane a reference to such a replicated document?  If I
  29. have a reference to the closest replica, a user far away who follows
  30. such a link will get pointed to the replica closest to *me*, not
  31. closest to her.

  33. Some possible solutions:
  34.  
  35. - a translation scheme whereby clients "know" (e.g. from a local
  36. configuration file that may be updated automatically as mirror sites
  37. are added) that information at host X is identical to info at host Y
  38.  
  39. - a magic string in hostnames that is translated dependent on the
  40. geographical position of the client (e.g.
  41. http://info-cern.closestmirror/...)
  42.  
  43. - upon first contact with a server, it might respond with "please
  44. try the following mirror site which is closer to you" (this could be
  45. put in HTTP2 I suppose).
  46.  
  47. This is a real problem with embedding location information in URLs...
